Climate Systems - your innovation partner
If you are a producer of non-metallic building materials such as plywood, MDF and plasterboard then powder coating could be the sustainable coating solution you’re looking for to add performance and decorative properties to your products.
With 25 years of experience developing powder coating lines for these substrates, combined with the know-how to operate them and the formulas for low cure powder coatings that are essential to the process, we know a thing or two about it all.
In addition to the valuable know-how of what to do and what not to do, we also have experience in commercialising coated building products, such as powder coated plasterboard wall panels and ceiling tiles, MDF panels for furniture and joinery, plywood panels for sheathing, cladding and linings and a few more that we’ve forgotten about. We understand the pain points powder coating can solve, how it compares to legacy coating and laminating technologies and the complexities and challenges of producing and selling pre-finished materials in the conservative construction industry.
How to Adopt Sustainable Powder Coating Technology with Climate Systems.
- You’ll need a powder coating line suitable for the material type, size, finish specifications and throughput. Powder coating can be applied on a vertical line where parts are suspended from an over head conveyor and can be coated one or two sides plus edges or on a horizontal line where parts are conveyed flat through the process and coated one side.
- Ancillary equipment that might be needed depending on the product and end-use.
- Powder that is formulated for the substrate and end use specifications and which hits the price points plus sustainability credentials.
- Operating know-how, including coating line settings, quality control, substrate specifications and end use specifications.
- A market for these products with proven value propositions and good market fit.
- Marketing collateral to communicate your new innovation early and fast.
- Someone to help solve problems along the way and a partner with to access new technology developments that will keep you in front of the competition.
How we work with you to see your value add ambitions come to life.
- Early stage feasibility work to analyze your markets and opportunities based on product market fit, TAM estimates, cost of goods produced and market price points.
- Equipment specification to meet your plant footprint, throughput expectations, energy supply, automation levels and business model.

- Training of operators and SOP documentation.
- Supply of powder either direct or in partnership with producers in your region to deliver the the lowest cost supply of product at proven specification and quality standards.
Untapped Market Opportunities - powder coated plasterboard ceiling tiles
Often it’s hard to see the woods through the trees, thankfully we’ve done the hard work and understand what should be a success…because we’ve done it.
Powder Coated Plasterboard (Gypsum board) Ceiling Tiles
- Check out Ecotile to understand the benefits and track record of our own product that you can replicate in your markets.
- A powder coated plasterboard ceiling tile is:
- Economic
- Looks great in any colour and a range of finishes including digitally printed designs
- Excellent reaction to fire ratings (same as the substrate)
- Satisfies hygiene regulations plus has antimicrobial properties
- Tiles can be fully recycled, re-coated and re-used unlike tiles laminated with vinyl/PVC
- Carbon footprint assessment available as a guide to deliver credits on green building programs
- The ceilings tiles can match the steel or aluminum grid colour of the suspended grid systems
- Available in any colour and a range of finishes including matte and semi-gloss
Market Opportunities - powder coated plasterboard lining system
Produce great looking, durable and economic pre-decorated wall panels for commercial interiors and the OSM industry.
There’s nothing new about pre-finished plasterboard wall panels, these products have been around a while usually with a vinyl/PVC finish that’s glued to the boards paper face. The use is typically a panel for commercial partition systems and low end pre-fabricated building linings. The problem is they don’t look great, PVC when burnt produces toxic smoke and it is a difficult material to recycle. PVC as a wall finishing material is a legacy technology that doesn’t do the planet justice since there is a proven and viable alternative.
Powder coated plasterboard is a viable alternative, the appearance and touch is like a high end paint finish, the durability is good, it is recyclable and repairable and the sustainability impact is excellent.
- Check out our Climateline system that includes powder coated boards and an innovative trim system that has been in the market for over a decade.
- Any size and many types of boards can be powder coated to deliver a range of optimal solutions including:
- standard boards for dry areas
- high hygiene boards incorporating antimicrobial properties in the powder coating
- wet area boards with a moisture resistant powder coating that helps reduce mold and fungi growth while making cleaning easy
- Optimal solution for commercial partition systems/system walls, OSM builds that eliminates bottle necks associated with finishing,
- Commercial renovations, particularly when hygiene and low dust particulate are necessary.
- Solid economics – 2-5 x the value of uncoated boards
- Proven to be recyclable and re-coatable
- Carbon footprint data available
Climate Systems has developed aluminium finishing profiles that are one piece and two piece solutions and powder coated to match the board finish perfectly, helping to create a clean and consistent appearance.
